  • This video is an excellent example of how homeostasis can show both continuity and change (2.D.2)

  • Here is a link to a short animation which reviews the connections between the amniotic egg and the extraembryonic membranes. It is another example of continuity and change in evolution.


Assignment Homeostasis:

  • Choose a system. With your group, illustrate each of the following concepts for your system. More detail is provided in the assignment sheet below.

  • Organisms must exchange matter with the environment to grow, reproduce, and maintain organization.
  • Homeostatic mechanisms reflect both common ancestry and divergence due to adaptation in different environments.
  • Within multicellular organisms, specialization of organs contributes to the overall functioning of the organism
  • Organisms exhibit complex properties due to interactions between their constituent parts.
  • Organisms use feedback mechanisms to maintain their internal environments and respond to external environmental changes.
  • Biological systems are affected by disruptions to their dynamic homeostasis.

  • This reading summarizes the body's many responses to changes in temperature.

  • This is a link to an amazingly helpful website called Practical Anatomy Lab (PAL). It is an awesome tool for review in anatomy and it has an excellent section on histology as well. I am sure you will continue to benefit from this site in college!
